Offerenda (Offertory)

THE OFFERENDA ANTIPHON
commonly called the Offertory

The choir sings this chant in a repetitive manner as shown below. We would like to show the ornate chant notation for this Officium; perhaps in the future we may add the notation to this site.  The Offerenda for Sept. 14 is as follows.

Offerenda    Protege, tone 2:  Protect Thy people, O Lord, by the sign of the holy Cross, from all the snares of all our enemies, that we may show to Thee obedience well-pleasing, and that our sacrifice may be made acceptable unto Thee, alleluya.

Verse:  O Saviour of the world, save us all, and mercifully grant us all things beneficial for us, and all things hurtful drive away from us straightway, and stretch forth unto us the right hand of Thy majesty to protect us.  (Cantor bows.)

Choir:  Protect Thy people...

Verse:  Thou that for the world’s salvation didst innocently hang upon on the wood of the Cross: have mercy on the people whom Thou hast redeemed, that signed by its most holy seal they may be made secure from all dangers.  (Cantor bows.)

Choir:  Protect Thy people...

Verse:  Thee, O holy Cross of God, we humbly entreat, that with thy mighty power thou wouldst strengthen our hearts, preserve our souls, sanctify our thoughts, through Christ Jesus, Who hung upon thee.  (Cantor bows.)

Choir:  Protect Thy people...
