THE
PRAYERS OVER THE GIFTS
the Super Oblata, often called the Secrets
The
Priest sings these prayers to a simple tone. Note that the
doxology on the last Over the Gifts (Super Oblata) is said softly,
without chanting, making the transition to the Priest's solemnly chanted
"Through all the ages of ages," which is the first part of the
"Sursum" dialogue that brings us to the Preface and Sanctus. The
prayers Over the Gifts for Sept. 14 are as follows.
Over
the Gifts Ihesu Xristi
Nourished on the
Body of Jesus Christ our Lord, by which the banner of the Cross was
sanctified, we beseech Thee, O Lord our God, that as we have been found
worthy to venerate it, so also we may acquire the saving effect of its
glory, which endureth ever-unendingly. +
Through the same our Lord Jesus Christ Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth
with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God through all the ages of
ages. Choir:
Amen.
Commemoration of
the Martyrs:
Priest:
Let
us pray.
Over the Gifts Adesto Domine
Be with and assist our
supplications, O Lord, which we bear before Thee in commemoration of Thy
Saints, that we who have no confidence in our own righteousness may be
aided by the prayers of those that have well-pleased Thee.
Commemoration of All Saints:
Over the Gifts
Oblatis Domine
Be pleased, O Lord, with the
proferred Gifts, and at the intercession of the blessed and glorious and
Ever-Virgin Theotokos Mary, with all Thy Saints, defend us from all
dangers. (softly:)
Through our +
Lord Jesus Christ Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the
unity of the Holy Spirit, God ... (chanting
aloud:)
