THE COMMUNION ANTIPHON

The choir sings this chant as a refrain, during the communion of the clergy.  The Communion below is sung on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Sept. 14). We should like to show the ornate chant notation for this Communion; perhaps in the future we may add the notation to this site. 


Communion   Per lignum, tone 8

Cantor:  By a tree...  Choir:  ... we were brought into slavery; and by the Holy Cross we were set free. The fruit of the tree seduced us; the Son of God redeemed us, alleluya.

Verse:  That we may know upon the earth Thy way : among all the nations Thy salvation. (Ps 66:2)

Choir:  By a tree we were brought ... 

Verse:  Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit : as it was in the beginning and now and always, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
