THE
ARCHBISHOP'S BLESSING
If
an Archbishop is celebrating, he sings this blessing in a very simple tone, with the same
ceremonial as was shown earlier under "Bishop's Blessing." On Sept. 14 the petitions
are these:
Archbishop’s
Blessing Deus qui per
O
God, Who hast redeemed the race of mankind by the beam of the blessed
Cross, so that what before served to punish crimes might become, for those
who turn away from them, their redemption to life: grant Thy people to be
saved by the defence of Him with Whose banner they are armed. Choir:
Amen.
Let
the Cross be to them a foundation of faith, the approbation of hope, in
adversities a defence, and in prosperity, assistance. Choir:
Amen.
And
let it continue to be their victory in conflict; in the city, concord; in
the country, a guardian; in the home, a support; that what was turned into
salvation for Thy flock when the Lamb conquered may preserve them unharmed
in the time to come. Choir:
Amen.
Which
may He deign to grant, Whose kingdom and dominion abideth without end,
unto the ages of ages. Choir:
Amen.
Here
the Hierarch turns westwards to the people and blesses them solemnly,
chanting:
May
the blessing of God almighty, of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Spirit, come down upon you, and remain for ever. Choir:
Amen.
