Icon of St. Attracta, Abbess
in Ireland (6th c.). Also called Araght or Taraghta.
Feast: Aug. 11
A hermitess and co-worker with
St. Patrick, our holy mother Attracta was the daughter of a noble Irish
family. Her father opposed her religious calling but Attracta went to
St. Patrick at Coolavin, Ireland, and took the veil at his hand. She
founded a hospice on Lough Gara called Killaraght. She performed
miracles by the grace of almighty God, while living at Drum, near
Boyle. Holy Mother Attracta, pray to God for us!
