Iconic Drawing of St. Beccan
of Rhum, Hermit & Missionary
Feast: March 17
St. Beccan's story is the
oldest surviving account of an Irish monastic father completing "white
martyrdom" (voluntary exile for Christ's sake). After many years of
eremitic life among the moors and crags of Rhum, in Scotland, which way
of life he combined with his missionary endeavours amongst the Picts,
he reposed in the year 677. Holy Father Beccan, pray to God for
us!
Icon: of unknown provenance.
Sketch published in the 2001 St. Herman Calendar from Platina,
California.
