Cosmas appears on the left, St. Damian on the right. There are three
different pairs of Saints named Cosmas and Damian known to church
history, the most well-known of which were martyrs of Arabia. This icon
is of Sts. Cosmas and Damian of Rome, that is, they suffered martyrdom
together at Old Rome. The most well-known Sts. Cosmas and Damian are
commemorated on Nov. 1.
