Icon of St. Demetrius (Dmitri)
of Paris, Priest, + 1945
Feast: July 20
Icon
is of four recently-glorified Saints. Mother Maria (as she is still
known by many) appears the second from the left. St. Demetrius is
opposite her, the first of the two Saints upon the rt.
St.
Demetrius Klepinin was a Priest who served at the convent of Mother
Maria Skobtsova, an apartment which served as her convent in Paris.
When the Nazis overran Paris, Jews came to the convent asking for
baptismal certificates (which could save them from deportation and
death). Fr. Demetrius readily gave them these documents to save their
lives. He was eventually arrested and put to death by the Nazis. Holy
Father Martyr Dmitri, pray for us!
Top Icon:
by the hand of Maria Struve, who knew all four Saints.
Next Icon
(to right of the image which is a detail of the above): by the hand of
Olga Poloukhine.
Beneath
the icons is a photograph of the Saint.
