Icon of Our Holy Father
Gerard, Abbot-Founder of Brogne
Feast: Oct. 3
Holy Gerard enjoyed a
promising career at the court of the Count of Namur, but decided to
embrace the angelic life. Finding the monasteries of Belgium too lax,
in 917 he came to France and became a monk at St. Denis, helping to
transform this community into one of the most exemplary in Europe. He
eventually was ordained to the holy priesthood and founded and guided
the Abbey of Brogne in Belgium. He reposed on Oct. 3, 959. Holy Gerard,
Father of Monastics, pray to God for us!
