Icon of St. Gregory, Bishop of Tours, hagiographer (7th c.)

Feast: Nov. 17.

Born Georgius Florentius Gregorius, this Saint of the 7th century became Bishop of Tours, and successor of St. Martin. He wrote the ten-part History of the Franks, which is a chronicle of the Saints of early Gaul, in Gallo-Latin. He wrote four books on the miracles of St. Martin of Tours alone. His work was translated into English by Fr. Seraphim (Rose), a hieromonk of the Russian Orthodox Church. Holy Father Gregory, pray to God for us!

Top Icon: from a manuscript in the Nonnberg cloister in Austria.

Final Icon: manuscript illumination from the pre-Schism Sacramentary of Autun.
