Icon of St. Hilaria, martyr

Back to WESTERN SAINTS ICONS

Icon of St. Hilaria, martyr of Augsburg (+ 304)

Feast: Aug. 12

St. Hilaria was a martyr in the times of emperor Diocletian, suffering together with the holy martyrs and victors-in-Christ: Crescentian, Digna, Eunomia, Euprepia, Juliana, Largio, Nimmia, Quiriacus, and others. St. Hilaria was the mother of St. Afra, the more famous martyr of Germany. Hilaria and her three maids were burnt alive at the tomb of her daughter St. Afra. Holy Martyr Hilaria, pray to God for us!

Icon of unknown provenance.
