Icons of St. Januarius of Benevento, Bishop, Martyred at Pozzuoli in Italy

Feast: Apr. 21

Under the persecution of Diocletian, Bishop Januarius of Benevento went to visit his imprisoned friends Sossus, Proclus, & others. There he and his deacon Festus were arrested, together with a reader named Desiderius. They were all thrown to the wild beasts, who refused to harm them, whereupon they were beheaded. Holy Father Januarius, pray for us sinners!

Top Icon: from St. Nicholas Monastery, Ft. Myers, Florida, with embedded relic of the Saint. This icon of the Saint is beloved by those Orthodox in Florida who are of Italian descent. Image courtesy of Mother Andrea.

Next Icon: from a Menological on the website of the Orthodox Church in America.

A note on the icon graphics we host on this site, including the above icon:
St. John Cassian Press does not "carry," i.e., reproduce, sell, or stock these icons. Those who wish to acquire icons should contact the icon's producer / distributor, if shown; otherwise, an icon maker or distributor should be contacted (a cursory list appears on the main Icons page).
