Icon of St. Livinus, or
Lebuin, bishop of Ghent in Flanders (Belgium)
Feast: Nov. 12, June 25
(translation)
St. Livinus, son of a Scottish
nobleman and an Irish princess, was raised in Ireland, his mother's
country. He studied there, and then in England, being ordained by none
other than St. Augustine of Canterbury, apostle of the English.
He went with three disciples to Flanders and was successful in
preaching Christ there, but enraged pagans tore out his tongue to
prevent his holy preaching. Unfazed, the Saint continued to preach and
exhort, being finally put to death for our Saviour's sake near Alost in
Belgium. Holy
Father Livinus to God for us!
