Icons of St. Ludmila, martyr,
grandmother of St. Wenceslaus of Czechia
Feast: Sept. 16
Grandmother
of St. Wencelaus (Vyacheslav), St. Ludmila was married to the Czech
prince Borivoy. By her zeal for the Orthodox Christian faith she
brought many from paganism to the Church. Her daughter-in-law hated
her, and had St. Ludmila strangled in her old age. St. Wenceslaus
buried his grandmother's body in the Church of St. George in Prague.
Many miracles occurred over her holy relics. St. Ludmila suffered in
Techino in the year 927. Holy Mother Ludmila, pray to God for us!
