Icon of Holy Hierarch Maximus
(Massimo) of Turin
Feast: June 25
St. Maximus was a celebrated
preacher who was Bishop of Turin in Italy. In 451 we know he was
present at the council of Milan, where the northern Italian bishops
received the Tomos of Pope St. Leo I, the Great, which set forth the
true and orthodox teaching regarding the person of Christ in two
natures. He witnessed the martyrdom of three missionary priests in the
Rhaetian Alps in 397. He authored 118 homiles and 116 sermons, and some
of these talks are incorporated into the order of Western rite Matins.
His successor in the see of Turin was St. Victor. Holy Father Maximus,
pray to God for us!
Top Icon: from Italian
