Drawing of a manuscript
illumination showing St. Mummolin, bishop of Noyon (ca. +690)
Feast: Oct. 16
Our holy father Mummolin,
bishop of Noyon, was a native of the Constance region, who became a
monk at Luxeuil. With other monastic fathers (including St. Bertin) he
was sent to St. Omer and lived as superior amongst the fathers for
eight years in what is now called the "Old Minster" of St. Mummolin.
They relocated to the "New Minster," of St. Peter's at Sithieu, which
is now called St. Bertin's. Having become bishop, he ruled his diocese
for 26 years, falling asleep in the Lord in about the year 690. His
holy relics are richly enshrined in the Noyon Cathedral, but his skull
rests at St. Bertin's. O Holy Venerable
Father Mummolin, pray to God for us!
Icon: of unknown
provenance. It appears to be an early mediaeval illumination.
