Icon of St. Ninian, Apostle
to the Picts
Feast:
Sept. 16
St.
Ninian was the first of the great missionaries to Scotland. He was
spiritually and monastically formed by St. Martin of Tours, in the
monastery of Marmoutier in Gaul. He built a church of white stone,
which was then unusual, and is praised by St. Bede in his history. Holy
Father Ninian, pray to God for us!
Icon:
by the hand of Aidan Hart, Oecumenical Patriarchate, UK. Many thanks to
servant of God Aidan for making an entire set of his sublime icons
available to the Western Saints Icon Project.
Next is
shown the entrance to the Cave of St. Ninian, where an annual Orthodox
Christian pilgrimage is made, and the Holy Liturgy celebrated.
Beneath
is an image of a St. Ninian's cross, available from Gallery Byzantium.
