Icons of Sts. Procopius the
German (l.) and John of Ustiug (r.), fools for Christ
Feast: July 8 (St. John's
feast is May 29)
St. Procopius was a Baltic
German adherent of the Papal church who lived in the late 13th century.
Seeing Orthodox worship, he was strongly drawn by the Holy Spirit to
the Orthodox Church, which he entered. Again drawn powerfully by the
Spirit of God, he took upon himself the yoke of foolishness for
Christ's sake, and in fact was the first fool for Christ produced by
the churches of Rus'. St. Procopius reposed in 1303, showing the
highest degree of sanctity and humility. Holy Father Procopius, pray to
God for us!
