Icon of St.
Prosdocimus, first Bishop of Padua in Italy (+ 100)
Feast: Nov. 7
Prosdocimus was of Greek
origins. Sent from Antioch by the Holy Apostle Peter, he became the
first bishop of Padua in Italy. St. Prosdocimus brought the Gospel of
Jesus Christ to all that region and founded the parish church at Isola
Vicentina. He reposed in the year 100. His tomb is situated at St.
Justina basilica at Padua; the chapel dedicated to him there was built
over his tomb, outside the walls of Padua. Originally, St. Daniel of
Padua, the deacon of St. Prosdocimus, rested there as well, but in the
11th century St. Daniel's relics were translated to St. Sophia Church
in Padua. Holy Father Prosdocimus, pray to God for us!
Icon of unknown provenance. I
believe it is from a workshop of St. Luke (San Luca) in Italy.
