Icon of the blessed Seraphim (Rose)

Back to WESTERN SAINTS ICONS

Icon of blessed Fr. Seraphim (Rose) of Platina, California, who reposed in 1966

NOTE: FR. SERAPHIM (ROSE) HAS NOT BEEN GLORIFIED BY THE ORTHODOX CHURCH; however, many Orthodox Christians revere him as a Saint.

Feast: N/A (not a glorified Saint)

Hieromonk Seraphim (Rose), who reposed in 1982, served in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia. His writings have helped spread Orthodox Christianity and a traditional Orthodox world-view throughout modern America, the West, and in Russia itself. Following his death on September 2, 1982, Fr. Seraphim has not been glorified by any Orthodox Church. Yet he is venerated by a large number of Orthodox, especially within Russia, as a saint. Blessed Seraphim has been widely celebrated in iconography, liturgy, and prayer.

Icon from a Greek woman, Moscow, Russia, ca. 2000.
