Icon of St. Sigfried of Växjö, Apostle of Sweden, with Sts. Unaman, Sunaman, & Winaman, Monks, Martyrs

Feast: Feb. 15

Depicted in the bosom of St. Sigfried are the holy Priest, Deacon, & Subdeacon who were his nephews and who suffered martyrdom together with him. Sigfried was a Priest of York or Glastonbury who was consecrated a missionary Bishop and sent to Norway at the request of King Olaf Tryggvason. In 1008 St. Sigfried went on to Sweden, converting its King, also named Olaf, and very successfully preached the Holy Gospel. He also laboured in Denmark.

Icon provided by Vitaly Koisson of the Russian Patriarchate
