Back to WESTERN SAINTS ICONS

Icon of St. Tanguy (or Tanneguidus), hermit, monk, founder of St. Matthew Abbey

Feast: Mar. 11 (or Mar. 12)

St. Tanguy was a Breton hermit-monk from Gerber (Le Relecq). He founded the abbey of St. Matthew at Le Conquet and is buried at Locmazhé (Finistère). St.
Tanguy is celebrated on Nov. 19, the day after the festival of his sister St. Haude (or Aude) de Trémazan, or on 11 Mar. (or the 12th) together with his spiritual father and guide St. Paul Aurelian. Holy Venerable Father Tanneguidus, pray to God for us!

Icon: from the Atelier S.-Andre in France.

Beneath the Icon: the ruins of St. Matthew Abbey founded by St. Tanguy.
