Icon of St. Valeria, Martyr of
Milan (1st c.)
Feast: Apr. 28
St. Valeria, wife of St.
Vitalis, was the mother of the martyrs Gervasius and Protasius of
Milan. For refusing to deny Christ, she was beaten with clubs and so
gave up the ghost. The reliquary which once held her sacred relics now
rests in the British Museum in London, England. Holy Martyr Valeria,
pray to God for us!
Icon is
from a mosaic in the ancient basilica of St. Apollinaris at Ravenna in
Italy.
